Happy Green Careers Week!
It’s Green Careers Week this week so we thought we’d catch you up on our Green Futures programme! We’ve had loads of great activities since the programme started in…
Find out moreFrom television to cinema, radio to podcasts, social media to blogs, and everything in between, media has become an everyday part of our lives. It connects us as one big community and spreads information as soon as we wake up. Media comes in so many different forms, so it is no surprise that there are thousands of jobs in the sector. Whether you are interested in being in front of a microphone or camera or behind the scenes doing research, production or writing there is sure to be a job for you.
Jobs in the media sector are very competitive so having a degree can help you stand out from the crowd. As media studies can be quite broad you will be able to access a number of different careers within the sector. The course will include studying theory, research and analytical work as well as the creative practical aspect. If you want to find out more about a degree in media why don’t you check out the UCAS website and see the courses you can study.
If you’d prefer to be earning a wage whilst you are studying, then an apprenticeship might be the route for you. Apprenticeships in media are advertised at different levels depending on qualifications and experience. You can even work your way up the levels to gain a degree. A media apprenticeship would be for a specific job role rather than broadly studying media in a degree.
Media apprenticeships are advertised throughout the year so if there is a certain role or company that you fancy working for, it would be a good idea to sign up from job alerts or keep an eye out on the company’s website and social media. If you want to browse apprenticeship roles in media you can use Gov.uk to find the job for you.
If a course or job in the media sector is something that appeals to you then you might want to consider how you can show off your practical skills. Putting together a portfolio of projects that you have worked on will allow you to speak about your experiences. This sector can be competitive so gaining some work experience could be a good idea. You can contact local media companies and see if they have any work to offer.
